Swedish brothers in the NHL

One brother in goal, the other trying to score. For Arvid and Elmer Söderblom, an NHL meeting can mean a direct contest. They are among the Swedish brothers in the league in 2026/27, alongside William and Victor Eklund and Otto and Ivar Stenberg.

Arvid and Elmer Söderblom: goalie against forward

Arvid Söderblom is a Chicago Blackhawks goalie. His younger brother Elmer Söderblom plays forward for the Pittsburgh Penguins, having joined from Detroit in March 2026. Elmer was still a Red Wing when the brothers first faced each other in the NHL in November 2025.

They had dinner together the night before. During the game, Elmer had a scoring chance, but Arvid stopped him with his right skate. In Hockeysverige’s interview after the meeting, Arvid explained that he recognised his brother receiving the puck, then had to concentrate on making the save as he would in any other situation.

Otto and Ivar Stenberg: from Stenungsund to the NHL

Otto Stenberg is with the St. Louis Blues and his younger brother Ivar Stenberg with the San Jose Sharks. Otto was recalled from the AHL on October 19, 2026. Ivar joined the Sharks as that summer’s second overall draft pick.

In an October 2026 interview with Hockeysverige, Knut recalled the ice the family made at home, where he sometimes played in goal against his brothers.
