Swedish NHL brothers through the years
From Sundström and Loob to Sedin, Nylander and today’s NHL brothers. Swedish siblings who reached the league as teammates, opponents or in different seasons.
Daniel and Henrik Sedin spent their entire NHL careers with the same club. Henrik and Joel Lundqvist ended up on opposite sides, as a goalie and a forward. The history of Swedish NHL brothers includes long careers together and siblings who never appeared in the same game.
These are brothers who both actually played in the NHL. Being drafted, signing a contract or dressing as an unused backup goalie is not enough. Our Swedish NHL sibling directory brings the families together with their shared games and head-to-head records.

Söderblom, Eklund and Stenberg: the current pairs
Arvid and Elmer Söderblom, William and Victor Eklund and Otto and Ivar Stenberg continue Sweden’s NHL sibling history. Our article about the brothers in the NHL in 2026/27 covers more of their shared hockey background.
A former NHL pair is not necessarily retired
When brothers no longer play in the NHL at the same time, that does not mean both have stopped playing hockey. One may remain in the league while the other plays in the AHL or Europe. Past overlapping NHL careers and retired players are different things.
The family statistics pages separate the regular season from the playoffs. A goal against a brother’s team is different from a goal against the brother himself: the latter requires a scoring report identifying him in net. Ties remain part of the older head-to-head records.
